An online course is a revenue generating asset you can create, using the knowledge and experience you already have.

It allows you to share what you already know with a wider audience.

A great example of this is my previous company, Fit Father Project.

They specialise in weight loss and fitness for Dads and men over 40.

Instead of working with clients in-person, the founder created several online courses that customers could follow on their own, to achieve fantastic results.

From 2015 onwards, Fit Father Project has sold over 51,000 online courses, and its sister company Fit Mother Project has sold over 11,000 courses.

All the customers who purchased a program received full instruction on everything they needed to do, to get in great shape and improve their health.

BUT… they didn’t need to be in the room with a trainer to do so.

They simply needed to follow the course.

The great thing about setting up an online course is that you don’t need to be a tech wizard, or need any fancy equipment to do it.

If you have a smartphone, an internet connection, and a social media account, you have everything you need to get started.

To be transparent, you will eventually need a course hosting platform, but most offer free trials, or 90 days access for less than $100.

The 5-step framework I teach my students, to get up and running quickly, is:

​1 - Identify:

Identify who your dream customer is, in terms of age, gender, location, lifestyle, goals, beliefs, everything you can pinpoint.

Also, understand where your dream customer can be found, both online and offline, and fully understand what their desired outcome is, as it relates to your services.

E.g. If you're into Yoga, who is your ideal customer and what will you help them achieve?

Will you work with older people, and show them how to use Yoga to maintain flexibility, or will you work with middle aged men, and show them how Yoga can increase overall body strength?

2a - Create Content:

Creating and posting content that is relevant to your ideal customers problems and goals, is what will get you recognised as an authority, and get your prospects to trust you.

Your content will be a mix of articles, videos, podcasts, images, etc.

You also need to create free giveaways to entice your prospects to go deeper into your customer journey, and value offers to showcase your products.

Your giveaways could be PDF'd or single videos, showing how they can take their first step to achieving the goal you will eventually help them achieve.

2b - Create Your Course:

You will start with an outline version of your course, which can be shown to prospective students, in order to validate the concept.

This is how you can sell your course before it is even fully created.

Once you have the outline, it will not take you long to put the full course together.

3 - Promote:

It’s great to create all of your content, but if no-one gets to see it, you’re screaming into the abyss.

Promotion is what gets you seen and heard.

Your promotion tools will be your blog, social media posts, YouTube, and podcasts, as well as partners, affiliates or influencers.

4 - Convert:

To get people to buy your course, you’ll need to move them through the customer journey, where every step is a conversion.

You convert strangers into followers, followers into leads, leads into customers, and customers into raving fans.

Your raving fans then introduce new strangers to your business, and the conversion cycle starts all over again!

5 - Scale:

Scaling your business increases the number of people you can impact, as well as brings in more revenue.

Some of your revenue can be reinvested to create a robust infrastructure to manage additional customers.

This will include posting on multiple platforms, running paid ads, building a team, and creating processes and automation.

Once you’ve created your online course, you’ll have an asset that has the potential to earn you a higher income with less hours of work.

The time cost for fulfilling an online course depends on how involved you want to be, and whether you offer any personal contact.

You can sell your online course at any time of the day or night. They don’t rely on you being there in person.
